Florida AI Transparency Statement

Aligned with Florida Rule 6A-1.0957 on AI in K-12 schools

Teachers have the final say on every score. Student work never trains AI. Student data is stored in the US and processed on US servers by default.

What Florida asks

On September 16, 2026, Florida's State Board of Education adopted binding rules for AI in K-12 schools (Rule 6A-1.0957). They take effect on October 29, 2026. Every district and charter school needs an AI policy by July 1, 2027. The core requirements:

  • Parents choose. Schools tell parents about each AI tool. When students use a tool directly, parents opt in and can ask for a non-AI alternative ((3)(e)1).

  • Teachers decide. No AI decision without human review, scoring included ((3)(e)10).

  • Data stays safe. No selling student data or using it to train commercial AI models. Districts prioritize vendors that store and process data in the US ((3)(e)17).

  • No profiling, no AI friends. No undisclosed behavior monitoring, social scoring or psychological profiling ((3)(e)8), and no companion AI ((3)(f)).

  • Everything on record. At least 30 days of student records, a public list of approved tools and a usage report to the state ((3)(e)13 to 15).

How Ed.ai meets it

Teachers have the final word

Ed.ai drafts a score and feedback. No score reaches a student until the teacher releases it. The teacher can review and change every score first.

Student work never trains AI

Not by us, not by our model vendors (Azure OpenAI, Azure Mistral, Google Gemini). It's written into our contracts. And we never sell student data.

Student data in the US

Student data is stored in the US and processed on US servers by default.

Names masked before AI reads a paper

Names and student IDs are masked on the image the AI receives, before any model sees it. Teachers still see the original paper. How it works.

Built for teachers

Ed.ai reads the student work the teacher uploads, scores it and tracks each student's skills on the standards assessed, for the teacher. No behavior monitoring, social scoring or psychological profiling. Ed, the AI teaching assistant, is for teachers and acts only at their request.

Teacher tools and remediation

Worksheets, assessments, lesson plans, exit tickets and remediation activities stay private until the teacher shares them. They align with Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards.

What students use

Students see the papers and feedback their teacher releases, can translate that feedback, and do the exercises their teacher shares. That is direct use, so the parent opt-in applies.

Records the school can share

Student work and feedback stay in Ed.ai for the length of the school's contract. Parents ask the school to see them.

Known limitations

Ed.ai flags to the teacher the exercises a student must draw (geometric constructions, graphs, number lines, diagrams), answers it cannot match to a question, and inconsistencies in the answer key. Pages it cannot read go to a review step before grading. Accuracy is 95% on our internal benchmark; no independent study yet ((3)(e)12).

Grade levels and accessibility

Ed.ai is built for K-12 math. Districts using it from VPK to grade 5 run the additional review the rule requires ((3)(e)2). Our Accessibility Conformance Report (WCAG 2.1) is available on request ((3)(e)7).

Ready-made for your district

Most of the rule is a district job. We make each step quick:

  • Privacy agreement: Florida's official NDPA (FL-NDPA), pre-signed. Get it here.

  • Parent notice and consent form: a plain-language notice about Ed.ai, with an opt-in form and the non-AI alternative, included in your Florida packet.

  • Non-AI option: the teacher doesn't scan that student's paper and grades it by hand.

  • Vendor disclosures: known limitations, accuracy and testing methods.

  • State report: assessments and papers by subject and month, on request.

  • Incidents: we tell you within 72 hours.

FAQ

Can Florida schools use Ed.ai?

Yes. Ed.ai meets what the rule asks of AI tools and their vendors. Each district approves it under its own AI policy.

Does AI score my child's work?

AI drafts a score and feedback. No score reaches your child until the teacher releases it, and the teacher can review and change every score first.

Is my child's work used to train AI?

No. Never, by us or by our vendors.

Do I need to give permission?

If your child uses Ed.ai directly, for example to see feedback or do exercises, your school asks for your consent first. If you'd rather not, the teacher doesn't scan your child's paper and grades it by hand.

Does the AI see my child's name?

No. Names are masked on the image the AI receives. Your child's teacher still sees the original.

Where is the data stored?

Student data is stored in the US and processed on US servers by default.

Does the rule cover private schools?

No, only districts and charter schools. Private schools can use Ed.ai under our standard privacy terms.
