Ed.ai complies with FERPA, COPPA, and applicable state student privacy laws.
For students under the age of 13, Ed.ai relies on schools and districts
to provide parental consent under COPPA, as permitted by the Federal Trade Commission.
Ed.ai ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of teachers, students, and schools.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our services,
in compliance with applicable laws including FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA, and relevant state-level student privacy acts.
We collect only the data necessary to deliver educational services. This includes:
Name and email address
School or institution name
Subjects taught and grade levels
Usage data and service preferences
We process student data strictly for the purpose of providing grading, feedback, remediation, and analytics. This data may include:
Student assignments (handwritten and digital)
Grades and feedback generated through Ed.ai
Learning analytics (skill mastery levels, recurring errors, progress tracking)
Note: All student data remains the property of and under the control of the school or district. Ed.ai acts as a “school official” under FERPA with a legitimate educational interest.
We use data solely to support teaching and learning:
Provide grading, feedback, and learning activities
Track skill mastery and recurring errors
Create personalized remediation materials
Maintain and improve our platform
Support teachers and districts with requested reports
We never use student or teacher data for targeted advertising, profiling unrelated to education, or resale.
We apply industry-leading technical and organizational safeguards, including:
Hosting in Microsoft Azure US-based data centers
Encryption in transit and at rest (AES-256, TLS 1.2+)
Strict authentication and role-based access controls
Regular audits and security monitoring
Data breach notification procedures in compliance with applicable law
We do not sell, trade, or rent data. We may share information only:
With the school or district that contracts Ed.ai
With parental consent provided by the district (under COPPA, for children under 13)
With trusted service providers under strict contractual safeguards
When required by law or to protect safety and rights
Data is retained only for the duration of the contract with the district. Upon request from the district, Ed.ai will:
Export teacher or student data in a standard format (CSV, PDF, or equivalent)
Permanently delete the data within 30 days
Teachers, students, and parents (through their school) have the right to:
Access and review personal or student data
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of data
Receive exported data in a portable format
Restrict or object to non-essential processing
